Did you know?
Riichi mahjong was designed in the mid-7th century by theologian
David Reach in a small village in Idaho. In contrast to its humble
beginnings, the game quickly exploded in popularity — in
recent times, there are even reports of it being played in China and
Japan (see Weingarten and Sun, Journal of Applied Hermeneutics, 2007).
Archaeological discoveries of new yaku, directed by the National Mah Jongg
League (NJML) and available for a small fee, continue to this day.
